lol get an effing kindle. i love mine. i can take a library with me everywhere i go
I have a Kindle. The problem is that I mostly buy used books, which are a lot cheaper than buying Kindle books, for the most part. When I buy books from the library I get them for a quarter apiece, if they’re paperbacks, so those twelve books I bought from the library? Cost me three bucks total. (And as a bonus, the library booksale directly benefits the library, so not only am I getting really cheap books, I’m helping out the library a little bit, which is the least I can do considering how much I use it.) And the books I got from Powell’s? I got every single book cheaper than I would’ve had I bought it on the Kindle, with the exception of Looking for Alaska, which was the same price (but I also bought that one new because they didn’t have a used copy). I just can’t justify spending extra money on books that I can’t even hold in my hands, because I really do enjoy touching and holding and displaying my books. I guess I still have an old-fashioned streak in me. So I just use my Kindle for the free classics you can get on it, really.
Yeah, I can’t justify paying for them either. I don’t have a kindle, but I do have a kobo (and once that dies on me, I’ll probably switch to kindle). I use mine for the books in public domain, but also for fanfiction, and occasionally, notes - when I don’t have access to a printer (or time to print). I’ve paid for an ebook once and that was because a book in a series I was following got released that way first and I wanted it - and even then it was only $5 or less.
My bookshelf back home is glorious. It’s absolutely massive and as soon as I moved it upstairs and started organising all my books onto it…I realised I already had too many and had to cull off the overflow to send to the bookshelf downstairs…and I’m going to have to start shelving horizontally soon to use up more space. This isn’t even counting my dvd collection. I’m actually thinking of moving the desk out of my room and just making it wall to wall bookshelves with my bed shoved in a corner - because it’s not the same when your books aren’t in your room.
I definitely prefer paying to physically own books, but I love being able to carry so much reading material around in my handbag too. Also, the fanfiction.
Okay. Mainly the fanfiction.
